This intervention in the landscape retains and cleans water in storm events, slowing the flow temporarily through Sandy Creek on its journey to the Brisbane River. It’s about a measured detention, clean and release and this process is made visible to the local community in Tarragindi within an existing park.
Strategies include water sensitive urban design and other infrastructure thats supports circulation and viewing. This idea can be multiplied across a catchment to reduce the impact of flood at multiple scales, both within the inner suburbs and along the River at vulnerable, low contour areas. BCC planning like Norman Creek 2026 Draft Vision and Concept Plan can adopt these ideas and the cumulative effect of flooding could be reduced, whilst nourishing our urban environments and communities.

I love this idea and wish it would happen. We need to be able to connect with nature more readily in our own neighbourhoods
I like this idea because it not only deals with a natural process of flooding but also improves conditions for nature and introduces locals to the process, very creative!Love the plan and graphics as is easy to understand, inspiring.
